Arthritis Walk Saturday in Bloomington, MN and Jacksonville, FLMar 2nd, 2011 | By Kim Harrison | Category: Health
The Arthritis Foundation’s Arthritis Walk officially takes place in May in most locations. But in Bloomington, Minnesota, kids are getting a head start with the Juvenile Arthritis March (JAM) at the Mall of America on Saturday, March 5. Meanwhile, the Jacksonville, Florida chapter of the Arthritis Walk is also gearing up for an early start at Metropolitan Park this Saturday.
Walking promotes bone strength, joint mobility, flexibility, muscular strength, circulation, and lubrication. This can reduce the risk of arthritis and osteoporosis in many cases, although arthritis comes in different forms and can have different causes.
To promote walking and prevent arthritis, the Arthritis Foundation holds its annual Arthritis Walk every May. The event raises awareness and funds to fight arthritis. Companies and individuals participate in joining the walk and the fundraising effort.
In Bloomington, kids will be walking around the third floor of the Mall of America, while enjoying Kid’s Zone activities like a scavenger hunt, face painting, and prizes. Those with arthritis and those who raise over $100 can wear an official JAM t-shirt. The Bloomington chapter of the Arthritis Walk has already raised over $112,000. For more information, visit the Arthritis Walk Bloomington chapter webpage, call (651) 229-5371, or email Liz at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Jacksonville Arthritis Walk will take place at Metropolitan Park at 1410 Gator Bowl Boulevard on March 5, 2011. Registration begins at 8 am, and the walk begins at 9 am. The Jacksonville chapter of the Arthritis Walk has raised nearly $24,000 so far.
Arthritis Walk events are also taking place in West Lafayette, Indiana later in March and in locations around the country in April. To see when Arthritis Walk events are scheduled in your location, visit the Arthritis Walk page of the Arthritis Foundation’s website.
